The Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) is one of the largest and most striking woodpeckers found in North America. Known for its bold appearance and characteristic call, it is a fascinating bird often associated with mature forests. They are quite common in our area of Florida each winter. This is one of two who were hanging out in my backyard recently.
