Strokkur Geyser, often referred to simply as Strokkur, is a renowned geothermal feature located in the Haukadalur Valley of southwestern Iceland. It stands as one of the most iconic and active geysers in the country, drawing visitors from around the world to witness its impressive and regular eruptions.

Strokkur is situated within the Golden Circle, a popular tourist route that includes several natural wonders in Iceland. The geyser is characterized by its distinctive behavior, erupting approximately every 5 to 10 minutes with a powerful display of boiling water shooting up into the air. The eruptions can reach heights of up to 30 meters (98 feet), creating a spectacular sight against the backdrop of Iceland’s otherworldly landscape.

The name “Strokkur” translates to “churn” in English, reflecting the churning motion of the water just before an eruption. Unlike its larger and less predictable neighbor, Geysir, which gave the term “geyser” its name, Strokkur’s reliability in erupting has made it a favorite among tourists and nature enthusiasts.

Visitors to Strokkur can witness the anticipation as the water in the geyser’s vent begins to bubble and surge, leading to the climactic moment when a powerful burst of steam and water is expelled into the air. The sight is not only visually stunning but also a reminder of the geothermal forces at play beneath Iceland’s surface.

Description

Stokkur Geyser is printed using traditional high-quality methods. It will be printed on Kodak’s Metallic Photographic paper.  I use this paper for most of my prints since I love the little glitter that it adds. Kodak’s Endura Metallic paper can put so much “pop” in your enlargements that they’ll look as if they were taken in 3D! The secret behind this amazing paper is literally behind the picture! Kodak has placed a silvery metallic surface under the dye image. This layer acts like a mirror, reflecting the light illuminating the front of the print back through the dyes. The result is a brilliant, almost translucent effect that can be far brighter than conventional enlargements. This paper is also stable in that it lasts 100 years in a typical home display, 200 years in dark storage and 1 to 5 years for commercial display (Quoted from Kodak’s Spec sheet).
