Ruins on Olive Farm, Original Photograph by Kim A. Bailey
2013
Portugal

This evocative black and white photograph captures the haunting beauty of ruins on an olive farm in Portugal, frozen in the timeless embrace of the year 2013. The composition invites viewers to explore the delicate balance between decay and enduring history in the scenic Portuguese countryside.

The olive farm, once a hub of activity, now echoes with the whispers of its bygone vitality. The remnants of buildings and walls become a canvas on which the story of agricultural heritage is etched, each fissure and fragment telling tales of labor and seasons past.

The choice of black and white photography not only emphasizes the textural details but also imparts a timeless quality to the scene. The photograph becomes a visual portal, inviting observers to step into a moment where the past coexists with the present, creating a poignant narrative of resilience and the inexorable passage of time.

As one contemplates this image, there’s a sense of reverence for the history embedded in the ruins of the olive farm. The photograph becomes a reflective journey, inviting viewers to ponder the cyclical nature of life and the enduring beauty found in the remnants of a once-vibrant agricultural landscape in the heart of Portugal.

Description

Ruins on Olive Farm is printed using traditional high-quality methods. It will be printed on Kodak’s Metallic Photographic paper.  I use this paper for most of my prints since I love the little glitter that it adds. Kodak’s Endura Metallic paper can put so much “pop” in your enlargements that they’ll look as if they were taken in 3D! The secret behind this amazing paper is literally behind the picture! Kodak has placed a silvery metallic surface under the dye image. This layer acts like a mirror, reflecting the light illuminating the front of the print back through the dyes. The result is a brilliant, almost translucent effect that can be far brighter than conventional enlargements. This paper is also stable in that it lasts 100 years in a typical home display, 200 years in dark storage and 1 to 5 years for commercial display (Quoted from Kodak’s Spec sheet).
