White Winged Dove
2025
Boynton Beach, Florida

White-winged Doves live in desert habitat in the Southwest and in cities and suburbs of Texas and the coastal Southeast. They often visit backyards, especially those with birdbaths and feeders. Individuals wander widely and irregularly across the continent after the breeding season ends. This one was in a wetlands park high in a tree trying to sleep but keeping an eye on the humans walking by on a nearby walking trail.

The photograph captures a serene moment of a white-winged dove perched high in the branches of a tree. The dove’s soft, sandy-brown plumage is complemented by its striking, white-edged wings, which stand out vividly against the dappled green foliage around it. Its small, rounded head tilts slightly downward, giving the impression that it is curiously observing the photographer below. Sunlight filters through the leaves, creating a mosaic of light and shadow on the bird and its surroundings. The scene evokes a sense of quiet connection with nature, as the bird appears both watchful and at ease in its elevated perch.
