Brown Pelican with Yellow Head
2019
Jacksonville Beach, Florida
The photograph features a yellow-headed pelican perched gracefully on the rail of a pier, with the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean stretching out behind it. The pelican’s striking yellow head contrasts beautifully with its grey and white body, while its long, curved beak adds to its distinctive profile. The feathers appear wet, capturing the texture and natural detail of the bird’s plumage.
Though the pelican is facing the ocean, it has turned its head toward the photographer, its keen eye creating a sense of curiosity or awareness. The backdrop of the ocean is soft and blurred, with shades of deep blue emphasize the bird as the central focus.
The photograph conveys a sense of calm and connection, blending the beauty of wildlife with the serene energy of the ocean.
