Blue and Yellow Boat
2021
Mystic, Connecticut
In this intriguing abstract photograph, the weathered interior of a wooden boat’s bow takes center stage, revealing a captivating array of textures and colors. The wood, worn by time and weather, bears the traces of its maritime journey, with cracks, knots, and imperfections adding to its rustic charm.
A palette of weathered yellow and blue hues dominates the scene, evoking the colors of the sea and sky and imbuing the space with a sense of coastal nostalgia. The yellow tones, reminiscent of sun-bleached wood and weathered paint, mingle harmoniously with the deeper blues of the surrounding surfaces, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.
Blue and Yellow Boat is printed using traditional high-quality methods. It will be printed on Kodak’s Metallic Photographic paper. I use this paper for most of my prints since I love the little glitter that it adds. Kodak’s Endura Metallic paper can put so much “pop” in the enlargements that they’ll look as if they were taken in 3D! The secret behind this amazing paper is literally behind the picture! Kodak has placed a silvery metallic surface under the dye image. This layer acts like a mirror, reflecting the light illuminating the front of the print back through the dyes. The result is a brilliant, almost translucent effect that can be far brighter than conventional enlargements. This paper is also stable in that it lasts 100 years in a typical home display, 200 years in dark storage and 1 to 5 years for commercial display (Quoted from Kodak’s Spec sheet).
