A vibrant celebration of the essential relationship between bees and the flowers they pollinate. A bumblebee gathers nectar from the brilliant red and yellow petals of a blanket flower, its busy work quietly supporting the life cycle of plants and the broader ecosystem. The vivid colors and intimate composition draw attention to the beauty of this small but vital interaction in nature.
The photograph brings to mind the themes we explored at the Royal Ontario Museum’s BEES: A Story of Survival exhibition, which highlights the remarkable world of bees and their importance to our environment. Here, a simple moment in a garden becomes a reminder of the intricate connections that sustain life—and of the beauty that can be found when we take the time to look closely.
This photograph captures the vivid beauty of a blanket flower (Gaillardia) in full bloom, with a bumblebee gathering nectar from its richly colored center. The dramatic combination of golden yellow and warm red-orange petals creates an almost painted effect, while the softly blurred greenery provides a natural backdrop. The bee adds a sense of movement and life, turning a beautiful floral portrait into an intimate moment of nature at work.
Enhance your home or office with this stunning photograph by Kim A. Bailey and let the bold colors, and natural charm of Bee inspire and captivate you every day.
Bee is printed using traditional high-quality methods. It will be printed on Kodak’s Metallic Photographic paper. I use this paper for most of my prints since I love the little glitter that it adds. Kodak’s Endura Metallic paper can put so much “pop” in the enlargements that they’ll look as if they were taken in 3D! The secret behind this amazing paper is literally behind the picture! Kodak has placed a silvery metallic surface under the dye image. This layer acts like a mirror, reflecting the light illuminating the front of the print back through the dyes. The result is a brilliant, almost translucent effect that can be far brighter than conventional enlargements. This paper is also stable in that it lasts 100 years in a typical home display, 200 years in dark storage and 1 to 5 years for commercial display (Quoted from Kodak’s Spec sheet).
