Porto, Portugal
As I walked through the streets of Porto, Portugal, I was struck by the quiet beauty in what was left behind. The country was experiencing difficult economic times, and many once-active storefronts stood empty—weathered wood, torn paper, and crumbling cement telling their own kind of story.
This photograph captures the textures of time and memory. There's something deeply human in the decay—how layers peel away to reveal fragments of the past. I love how this scene invites the imagination to fill in the blanks: What once stood here? Who passed through these doors?
A piece for those who see beauty in imperfection and stories in silence.
Abandoned Store, Porto, Portugal is printed using traditional high-quality methods. It will be printed on Kodak’s Metallic Photographic paper. I use this paper for most of my prints since I love the little glitter that it adds. Kodak’s Endura Metallic paper can put so much “pop” in the enlargements that they’ll look as if they were taken in 3D! The secret behind this amazing paper is literally behind the picture! Kodak has placed a silvery metallic surface under the dye image. This layer acts like a mirror, reflecting the light illuminating the front of the print back through the dyes. The result is a brilliant, almost translucent effect that can be far brighter than conventional enlargements. This paper is also stable in that it lasts 100 years in a typical home display, 200 years in dark storage and 1 to 5 years for commercial display (Quoted from Kodak’s Spec sheet).
